Author Gary Phillips Marcus has been an independent power producer and attorney, whose career has bridged energy technology, environmental sustainability, and business innovation.

He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Oregon School of Law , after earning a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies in history, economics, and political science from UO, and a Bachelor of Arts from Evergreen State College.

Gary is the president of Frontier Technology I, LLC and its related companies.. For more than 35 years, he has worked in renewable energy development,, including reconnaissance and feasibility evaluation of more than 100 hydroelectric sites in Oregon and Washington.

His Falls Creek Hydroelectric Project earned him the Oregon Governor’s Energy Award and certification from the Low Impact Hydropower Institute.

Beyond hydropower, Gary has been involved in wood waste-to-energy development, natural gas power plant permitting in the United States and India, and served as an industry advisor to the Low Impact Hydropower Institute from 2011 to 2014.

An entrepreneur, science enthusiast, and policy thinker, Gary also founded a high-performance knee brace manufacturing company that produced the Marquette Knee Stabilizer II . He later owned and operated a Japanese restaurant in Bellevue, Washington, that employed more than fifty people prior to its sale in 2007.

Committed to community and cultural service, Gary served for six years on the board of the Eugene Symphony and was treasurer of the Jewish Federation of Lane County.

Through both his professional work and writing, Gary seeks to promote environmental awareness, responsible governance, and the power of technology to improve human and planetary well-being.
